Scrap broadband tax

There are calls for the government's controversial broadband tax to be scrapped.

Thinktank Policy exchange argues that there are better alternatives to the levy, which will charge every UK landline £6 per year.

The body has called for a new Public Access Division to be established, charged with spending £300 million creating broadband hubs in libraries, community centres and Post Offices.

These concerns follow worries voiced by the Conservatives who say that the fee will cost UK businesses £70 million a year and push small companies into the red.

However Labour say that the £1 billion fund generated from the tax will help boost rural areas broadband access.ADNFCR-2683-ID-19561791-ADNFCR
