New research has shown that the mobile web has now gone mainstream in Europe with people spending more time on the mobile net than they do reading papers and magazines.
The study by the European Interactive Advertising Association found that 71 million Europeans use the internet on their mobile each week, for an average of almost an hour a day.
The report found that it was mainly younger users driving the trend towards increasing digital mobility, with use in Eastern European countries in particular growing at rapid rates.
Such changes in technology have left many traditional media industries struggling to adapt to a digital future.
Newspapers such as The Times will soon introduce a ‘paywall’ to manage access to their site, while the FT has announced that it will now accept Paypal payments for daily subscriptions.
