Search engine Google has announced changes to the way it works in an apparent effort to counter the growing popularity of Microsoft's rival Bing service.
The website, which now features background images on its homepage instead of the previous plain white, claims that it now delivers search results up to 50 percent faster.
The new system, known as Google Caffeine, makes results available as soon as any changes to a website are indexed. Previously updates only occurred after Google had scoured the whole web.
